Information we use

When you join the library, we collect your email address, verification status and account identifier. We record the breakdown you joined from, when access was granted, the privacy notice version and your choice about marketing emails. If you choose marketing emails, we also record that choice and the wording shown to you.

At the moment you join, we also record once where you came from: the country your request arrived from, your browser’s time zone and language, the app or website that sent you here, and the label on the link you followed if it had one. This record does not include your IP address or the full address of the page you came from.

Authentication and hosting providers process technical information such as IP addresses, device and browser information, session identifiers and security logs to deliver and protect the service. If you contact us, we receive your message and the contact details you provide.

Why we use it

A verified email is required to create and maintain library access, send the sign-in codes you request and help with account issues. These are service functions. We also use necessary technical information to prevent abuse, protect accounts and keep the site running.

News about breakdowns, launch offers and discounts is optional. We send those emails only when you separately choose to receive them. Leaving the checkbox empty does not prevent access. We do not sell your email address.

The record of where you came from tells us which countries and channels members arrive from, so we can decide what to publish and where. It is read in aggregate and is never used to decide your access.

Where applicable, account processing is necessary to provide the service you request, marketing relies on your consent, and security processing and understanding where members come from serve our legitimate interests in protecting and running the service. Requests required by law are handled under the relevant legal obligation.

Services involved

• Clerk verifies your email and maintains your account and sign-in session.
• Kit stores mailing-list information and delivers marketing emails if you choose them. Emails may include delivery, open and click information according to the mailing service configuration.
• Vercel hosts the website and processes the requests needed to display pages and provide access.
• Cloudflare delivers downloadable archives and provides website traffic analytics.

These providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Processing locations and available transfer safeguards depend on the provider and account configuration. Contact us for information about the arrangements applicable to your data.

Cookies and analytics

Sign-in uses cookies and browser storage to maintain your session and protect your account. Disabling them may prevent you from entering the library. They are separate from your choice about marketing emails.

Cloudflare Web Analytics measures visits and page performance. The site does not send your library email address to the analytics beacon. This site does not use advertising pixels or personalised advertising.

Your choices and retention

You can unsubscribe from marketing through the link in an email or by contacting us. Unsubscribing does not delete your library account or stop verification codes that you request. We do not automatically resubscribe you when you sign in again.

Account information is kept while it is needed to provide your account. Mailing-list information is kept while your subscription is active. A limited record of an unsubscribe request may be retained to prevent further marketing. If you request deletion, we remove account and mailing information unless limited retention is required for a legal obligation, a dispute or security. Technical logs follow the configured provider retention periods.

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, restrict processing or object to it, withdraw consent and complain to the relevant data protection authority. Changes

We update this page when data practices change and change the date above. Where a change affects how your information is used, we provide appropriate notice and request new consent when required. A future paid library will not automatically authorise marketing or a payment.
